If you’ve ever used the Ikea app to design your room digitally before making a large purchase or launched a GPS to find directions, then you’re already familiar with augmented reality. AR layers computer-generated images and other information over what we are viewing in the real world.
Pokémon Go is the hottest augmented reality app out right now. It layers a semi-transparent world over actual geographic locations and encourages users to travel to find, train and compete with their Pokémon – all while using their phones. This has the potential to be a real game-changer for many local businesses which have discovered they have made it on the Poké-map as a location of interest. These lucky companies have seen a ton of foot traffic to their establishments as a result of the game, and the social aspect encourages users to play together in large groups – offering so many opportunities for these businesses to make new customers!
